FAQ

  • What is Executive Functioning (EF)?

    • Executive functioning involves a set of cognitive skills including working memory, psychological flexibility, and impulse control. These are considered higher order skills that we use to learn, work, and function in our daily lives. If you struggle with EF, you might have a hard time focusing, following through on things, managing your time, and managing your emotions. This can get in the way of meeting goals for yourself.

  • What is an EF/ADHD Coach?

    • Just like a sports coach works with an athlete to train them to be as effective as possible in their sport, an EF coach works with an individual to identify the skills they need, guides them in implementing them in their life, and encourages them in their practice. Some elements of EF can be practiced and cultivated, while others can be compensated for using some simple techniques and diligence.

  • Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to work with you?

    • No. People with ADHD tend to have Executive Functioning (EF) deficits but even people without ADHD can struggle with EF issues. If you feel like you are struggling with EF, regardless of the reason, working with an EF coach could still be helpful to you.

  • Can you diagnose me with ADHD, or provide documentation that I have ADHD?

    • No. I am not a doctor or medical professional and am unable to assess for, diagnose, or treat mental illnesses such as ADHD

  • Is this therapy?

    • No. Therapy is a medical treatment and tends to be for a specific mental illness. In contrast, a coach works with you to help you identify your goals and meet them, but is not able to diagnose or treat illnesses.

  • Do you accept medical insurance?

    • No. This is not a medical service and therefore does not qualify for use of insurance, FSA, HSA, etc.

  • How do you meet with clients?

    • Often by zoom, but if you live in the Triangle area of NC we can find a public library to meet if you prefer in person sessions
